CARSON – Five Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athletes achieved perfection in the classroom in the 2019 spring semester to lead a total of 104 to be awarded with Cardinal & Gold Honors.
In its fifth semester with the Cardinal & Gold Honors, 45 student-athletes earned a 3.5 grade-point average (GPA) or higher. Four seniors and one sophomore earned perfect 4.0 GPAs. Volleyball's

Karla Angulo was the lone sophomore.
Softball and baseball led all programs with 17 student-athletes each on the Cardinal & Gold list, followed by women's soccer with 15. Men's soccer narrowly trailed with 14 with volleyball (12) and track & field (11) rounding out the programs with double digit representatives.
The Cardinal & Gold Academic Honors current CSUDH student-athletes who earned 12 or more units with a GPA of 3.0 or above in the previous semester. Those with a gold standard have their headshot placed on the wall inside the Athletics office.
The wall of academic excellence was established in part by a contribution made by Dr. Rodrick Hay to recognize the academic achievement of CSUDH student-athletes.
Dr. Hay has served CSUDH since 1996, beginning as Assistant Professor of Geography in teh Department of Earth Sciences and Geography. He served as Associate Professor and chaired the department from 1999-2002, and again in 2004. Dr. Hay currently is the Interim Special Assistant to the President / Chief of Staff and the Center for Urban Environmental Research (CUER) Director, serving the latter role since 2005. After serving as the Associate Dean for seven years, Dr. Hay was named Dean for the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences in 2013. Effective July 1, 2016, Dr. Hay has served in the role of Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
