Loska Belts 12th Homer in Game One Loss to Pioneers

HAYWARD – With rain in the forecast in the Bay Area Friday, the Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State East Bay baseball teams managed to get the first of a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series in without delay. Unfortunately, it was the Toros who fell victim with a 5-3 loss to the Pioneers.

TOP PERFORMERS
Pierson Loska – 1-for-4, HR
Kai Gomez – 2-for-5, 2 RBI
Jeremy Ciolek – 2-for-4, 2B

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Despite the loss, Tristan Garnett rebounded after a very difficult outing against Monterey Bay last week, going seven innings with five strikeouts.
- Trailing 3-0 headed into the seventh, the Toros (11-20, 9-19 CCAA) cut it down to one when Gomez hit a two-out single through the right side to score in Angel Estrada and Grant Decatrel. Gomez would steal second but was left standed.
- After East Bay (12-18, 9-15 CCAA) regained the three-run lead with a two-run homer in the seventh, Loska responded in the eighth with his 12th home run of the year. Ciolek followed with a double to right center but was left there after back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning.
- The Toros had a ninth-inning rally which began when Gomez hit a one-out single to move pinch-runner Kaelan Crisosto to second. But the Pioneers halted the rally with a popout and a strikeout.
