Baseball Honors Senior Class at Toro Field Before Taking on No. 8 Tritons

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team celebrated its 2019 season by honoring its six seniors Saturday, but the party was eventually spoiled by UC San Diego as the No. 8 team in the nation slugged their way to a 6-1 win over the Toros.

The Toros wrap both the series and 2019 campaign in La Jolla Sunday at noon. Fellow senior Ian Codina didn't appear in the home portion of the series but is likely to start in one of the two games Sunday.

TOP PERFORMERS
Eduardo Frayre-Cerda – 1-for-3, 2B, RBI
Pierson Loska – 3-for-5
Evan Gravenmier – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Before taking the field, the Toros saluted to seniors Codina, Frayre-Cerda, Spencer Hereford, Kai Gomez, Kaelan Crisosto and Jake Ryan.
- Hereford got his first starting nod as a Toro, going three innings allowing two runs on a walk and six hits. He did strike out two.
- After the Tritons (29-10, 24-10 CCAA) scored two in the third, the Toros (16-28, 15-27 CCAA) did slice the deficit in half when Frayre-Cerda doubled down the left field line to score in Loska.
- UCSD would respond in the fifth with back-to-back leadoff home runs and added two more in the eighth to build the 6-1 lead.
- Despite recording eight hits and four walks, Dominguez Hills left 11 runners stranded. UC San Diego left 10 on base.
