Olague Tosses Complete-Game Shutout as Toros Split with Coyotes

SAN BERNARDINO - Cal State Dominguez Hills split a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) softball doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino, Friday at CSUSB Softball Complex. The Coyotes took game one by a final score of 13-8, before the Toros came back to win the night cap 3-0 behind sophomore Alyssa Olague's complete-game shutout.
 
The Toros are now 24-16 overall and 18-14 in conference play. CSUSB is 23-15 overall and 17-13 in the CCAA.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros got the scoring going in the top of the second with five runs to get an early 5-0 lead. With junior Jessica Lane and freshman Kelly Monroy occupying second and first, senior Rachael Sandoval hit a single up the middle to bring in the first run of the game. Loe and Simon hit back-to-back singles to score two more. Loe and Simon would come home on two Coyote errors.
- CSUSB scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and one more in the third to make it a 5-4 game.
- CSUDH scored one in the top of the fourth as senior Jazmin Guzman reached on a single, took second on junior Chenoa Au's walk and third on a ground out from freshman Amanda Canizales. Lane laid down a sacrifice bunt to get Guzman in as the Toros increased the margin to two. It would be short lived as the Coyotes scored three in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-6 lead.
- CSUSB increased its lead with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. CSUDH was able to get two runs back in the top of the sixth. Guzman was walked and scored on Lane's double. Monroy hit a double in the next at bat to get Lane in and account for the final score of the game.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Olague led CSUDH with a complete-game shutout that included five strikeouts. She scattered three hits, did not allow a walk and retired the first 11 CSUSB batters in order.
- The Toros got to work in the opening frame. Simon singled, took second as Telles drew a walk and took third on a Coyote error. Junior Chenoa Au's fielder's choice plated Simon for a 1-0 lead.
- CSUDH added to its lead in the fourth as Telles drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in freshman Kelly Monroy.
- The Toros got some insurance in the top of the sixth. Junior Jade Loe hit a double and scored on Guzman's RBI single to the outfield.
 
UPCOMING
The Toros and Coyotes will close out the four-game series with another doubleheader on Saturday, April 20.
