Men's Basketball Goes Cold in Second Half; Falls to East Bay in CCAA Tourney Quarterfinal

HAYWARD – While it was raining in the Bay Area all throughout Tuesday evening, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team had difficulty making the ball drop into the bucket at Pioneer Gymnasium as the six-seeded Toros fell 68-54 to No. 3 Cal State East Bay in the quarterfinal round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

The Toros season comes to a difficult end at 14-14 overall.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Neither team would lead by more than three up for the first 12 minutes of the game. Following a pair of free throws from Mikey Hatfield to tie the game at 21, East Bay would go on a 10-4 run the remainder of the half to take a 31-25 lead at halftime. Dominguez Hills had a couple of good looks during that duration but came up empty, going 3-for-10 during that time period.
- The second half proved to be even more unlucky for the Toros. They ended up shooting 25.8 percent (8-for-31) from the field in the period. East Bay, meanwhile, shot 48 percent (12-for-25) while making 12 free throws.
- Trailing by as much as 18 in the second half, the Toros did cut the deficit in half with 2:40 remaining before the Pioneers regained that double-digit lead.
- Turnovers also became costly for Dominguez Hills as the Pioneers scored 22 points off those mistakes.

POSTGAME NOTES
- After making only one 3-pointer in the game, Colten Kresl finishes the season with 69 to take sole possession of the program's single-season list. The record is 74 held by John Nojima during the 1986-87 season.
- The Toros fall to 7-6 in the CCAA Tournament.
