TURLOCK - The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team started the Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock and hosted by Stanislaus State, with two wins at Turlock Sports Complex Friday. The Toros defeated Chaminade and Dominican by identical scores of 6-2.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- CSUDH scored one run in the opening frame to start the contest. Seniors
Damari Simon and
Jazmin Guzman drew walks to put two runners on. They both advanced on sophomore
Chloe Wenger's sacrifice bunt. Senior
Rachael Sandoval forced a Chaminade error as Simon came home.
- The Silverswords responded with one run in the bottom of the first to even the score. The Toros punched back with two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Freshman
Kelly Monroy was hit by a pitch and stole second. Junior
Jessica Lane hit a single and a Chaminade error brought home Monroy. Later in the inning, Lane came home on an error well.
- CSUDH scored one in the top of the fourth on Chaminade's fourth error of the game. The Silverswords got one as well in the bottom to make the score 4-2.
- The Toros got some insurance in the top of the seventh with two runs. Simon drew a walk and advanced to second on Guzman's single. Both players took second and third on a double steal and touched home on Sandoval's single up the middle to account for the final score of the game.

- CSUDH scored in the first inning once again. Simon hit a single, Guzman drew a walk and Monroy hit a single to load the bases. Junior
Jade Loe drew a walk to get the first run of the game in.
- Dominican was able to get two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Toros responded and evened the score in the bottom of the frame. Monroy got a hit to reach and came home on a RBI knock by Wies.
- The Toros scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away. Loe hit a two-RBI double with the bases loaded to make it 4-2. Junior
Lyzette Reveles reached on a fielder's choice and a delayed double steal with runners on the corners brought Loe in. Reveles touched home plate on a Dominican error.
