CARSON – A seven-run third inning and a solid relief outing from
Ian Codina was all that was needed for the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team to take an 8-4 win over Sonoma State to open the four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series at Toro Field Friday evening.
The Toros erase a three-game losing skid and bumps their records to 7-12 overall, 7-11 in the conference. The Seawolves, meanwhile, dip to 8-10 overall, 6-8 in the CCAA).

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Although each team plated a run in the first inning, the Toros did all the damage that was needed done in the third inning. After
Kai Gomez and
Jose Jimenez reached base with one out, Loska broke the 1-1 tie with a two-run single to center field.
Joe Canepa,
Domenic Colacchio and
Eduardo Frayre-Cerda each reached on singles to help force in Loska.
Kaelan Crisosto followed with a sacrifice fly,
Grant Decatrel played two more runs with a single, and another base hit by Gomez gave the Toros an 8-1 lead.
- Even though it wasn't a save situation, it felt like it with Codina. He entered the game in the seventh inning with two out, runners at the corners and the Seawolves already scoring an unearned run prior and the senior eventually escaped a bases-loaded threat preserving the 8-4 lead.
- Garnett made it through six innings for the second consecutive start allowing only three runs but gave up a season-high six walks. He did pitch four shutout innings.
- Sonoma's Riley Jones kept the Toros bats in check when he had to relieve starter Roberto Baldenado near the end of that third-inning impulsion. Baldenado conceded all eight runs but five of them were unearned.
WHO'S NEXT?
The two sides meet again Saturday for the 9/7-inning doubleheader. Game one is set for noon.
