LA JOLLA - The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team defeated No. 23 UC San Diego 5-3 in the first game of a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader, Saturday at Triton Softball Stadium. The Toros fell in game two by a final score of 4-1. The Tritons take the series, 3-1.

The Toros are now 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA. UCSD is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The win in game one also gave CSUDH 1,000 wins as a program.Â

WHAT HAPPENED?
- UCSD struck first with one run in the bottom of the first.
- The Toros responded with three runs in the top of the second. Senior
Jazmin Guzman and junior
Jade Loe hit consecutive singles to take first and second. They both moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt from junior
Lyzette Reveles. Senior
Rachael Sandoval singled up the middle to get Guzman home. Sophomore
Kelcy Telles hit an RBI single to get Loe in and Sandoval scored on a throwing error.
- CSUDH scored one run each in the top of the third and fourth frames to take a 5-1 lead. In the third inning, Freshman
Amanda Canizales doubled and took third on a single from Guzman. Canizales was plated on a passed ball. In the fourth, Telles drew a walk and scored all the way from first on junior
Chenoa Au's RBI double.
- UCSD got two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 5-3 game. Freshman
Ashley Wies came in and threw three shutout innings to get the save and preserve the win.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros scored their only run of the game in the top of the third. Senior
Damari Simon hit a single, took second on a fielder's choice from Canizales and took third on a second consecutive fielder's choice from Guzman. Loe hit one to right field to plate Simon as CSUDH went up, 1-0.
- The Tritons got one run each in the fourth and fifth and two in the sixth to put the game away.
- CSUDH could only muster one hit in the final four frames.
UPCOMING
The Toros will host their home opner against Stanislaus State, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16. Friday's doubleheader will start at noon, with Saturday slated for an 11 a.m. start.
