Homecoming 2019 Welcomes Toros Back Home

CARSON -- Last Saturday's Homecoming 2019 event brought over 70 Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athlete alumni and their families back home to the Carson campus as part of a day's long celebration, sponsored by CSUDH's Housing Office, Office of Student Life, Alumni Relations, Associated Students, Inc. and KDHR.

The January 26 event kicked off in the morning as both baseball and softball held their annual alumni games beginning at 10 am.  Meanwhile, the CSUDH cheer, dance and pep band squads made their way to Housing an hour later to gather residents down for a pregame celebration outside the Torodome entrance, while alumni entered through a separate entrance by the southeast doors of the Torodome.

Inside that entrance, alums had the opportunity to meet CSUDH's new president, Dr. Thomas Parham, as well as visit their alma mater and create new memories with former teammates.  In fact, Homecoming brought alums back from as far as the 1970s in men's basketball's Allen Taylor (1973-77) and Harry Turner (1974-76), baseball's Jim Burschinger (1974-77), men's track and field's Craig Kusunoki (1979-83) and men's basketball head coach Dave Yanai (1977-96), as well as the 1980s in men's basketball's John Nojima (1983-86) and All-American Anthony Blackmon (1985-89), and softball's Nicole Stelter (1988-92).

Here's what Kusunoki had to say after nearly 35 years since graduating.

Ken's Ice Cream, the CSUDH Alumni Office, LA Galaxy and Campus Dining all supported the event with booths and food, while giveaways included a commemorative Homecoming 2019 rally towel, foam horns, temporary DH tattoo, athletic lanyard, and lifetime athletic pass.
