CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team kept its playoff hopes alive with an 86-76 overtime win over Chico State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Saturday at the Torodome. The Toros improve to 13-13 overall and 9-11 in conference play. The Wildcats drop to 12-11 overall and 9-11 in the CCAA. WHAT HAPPENED?
- It was over when the Toros outscored the Wildcats 17-7 in overtime. Junior
Ahlisha Henderson had eight points in the extra period to lead the way for the Toros.
- Senior
Zhane Carter was big down the stretch of regulation. Down by one point, Carter hit a 3-pointer to put the Toros up two, 66-64, with three minutes remaining. Trailing by three points, 69-66, Carter once again hit a triple, this time with 51 seconds left, to force overtime.
- Chico State got its biggest lead of the game, 51-41, with 2:48 left in the third quarter, but CSUDH responded with a 10-0 run to end the period, capped off by two free throws from Bell.
- The Wildcats had control for much of the first half, but the Toros kept up and trailed by four points at halftime, 39-35.
PLAYOFF SCENARIO
- With the win, the Toros are now tied for sixth in the CCAA standings with a 9-11 record and are even with Chico State. The top-eight teams in the conference get a berth into the CCAA Tournament.
- Cal State San Bernardino (9-12), Sonoma State (8-12) and San Francisco State (8-12) are all within a game of the Toros and can potentially knock them out of the playoff picture.
- CSUDH can secure a playoff berth with just one win in their final two games.
