CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team saw five different players score in double figures to post an 82-61 domination over Humboldt State at the Torodome Friday to move closer to clinching a berth to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament.
In what has been a tight race since the start of conference play, the CCAA standings is beginning to shape up with eight of the 11 remaining contenders having three games left to play, including Dominguez Hills. The Toros (13-11, 11-8 CCAA), winner of two straight, continue to keep up with the pack and have leaped into fifth place over the Jacks (16-10, 10-8 CCAA) and idle Cal State San Bernardino. Eighth-place Cal State LA helped Dominguez Hills out by defeating Chico State up Highway 710 tonight to put the ninth-place Wildcats three games behind the Toros and two games out of the final playoff spot. The Toros can clinch a spot with a win over the Wildcats on Senior Night Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Unlike the last meeting in Arcata last month, which Humboldt State edged Dominguez Hills by one, the Toros made it a completely different outcome. The Jacks did battle early in the game and had a 22-21 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first period before the Toros went on a 26-8 run to take a 47-30 lead at halftime.
- The Toros did take advantage of the Jacks cold start to the second period by putting up 14 points within the first 6:22. The Jacks didn't get their first field goal in the period until 13:36 and by then the Toros had built a 61-33 lead.
- Speaking of field goals, Dominguez Hills shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63) while making 14 of them from the 3-point line. The five Toros who scored in double figures combined for 13 of them. The Jacks finished the night shooting 34 percent (19-for-56).
