Game Recap: Baseball | | By Rick Hoskin

Home Opener Spoiled by No. 16 Broncos Bats

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team combined for 14 hits but couldn't overcome a hot No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona as the Broncos swept the Toros in doubleheader action, 7-0 in game one and 17-3 in game two, under cold and on-and-off rainy conditions at Toro Field Sunday.

The Broncos sweep the four-game series to open California Collegiate Athletic Association season. The Toros fall to 1-4 overall.

GAME 1: CPP 7, CSUDH 0
TOP PERFORMERS
Pierson Loska – 2-for-3, 2B
Kaelan Crisosto – 1-for-4, 2B

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Broncos scored all the runs they needed in the first inning, highlighted by Brennon McKenzie's two-run double to right field.
- Trailing 7-0 already in the eighth inning, the Toros had the bases loaded with one out but the Broncos escaped with a twin-killing play to escape the jam.
- Despite the offensive struggles, Dominguez Hills' pitchers did strike out nine Broncos in the game.

GAME 2: CPP 17, CSUDH 3
TOP PERFORMERS
Jose Jimenez – 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 SB, 1 RBI
Jeremy Ciolek – 2-for-3, 2B

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros found themselves trailing 5-0 after three innings. They did score their first run of the day in that frame, when Grant Decatrel scored on Jimenez's ground out.
- Dominguez Hills scored two more in the sixth inning. Benjamin Donerson delivered a pinch-hit, RBI single to left field to plate in Jimenez and Ciolek, unfortunately, was the victim of a double play but was enough to score in Loska for the second run.

WHO'S NEXT?
The Toros remain home to start a four-game set with Cal State San Marcos. The series begins Friday at 2 p.m.
