Harper Scores 28 as Toros Get Back on Win Column

CARSON - Cal State Dominguez Hills snapped a six-game losing streak with a 75-58 win over Cal State LA in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's basketball matchup, Thursday at the Torodome.

CSUDH (5-6, 2-3 CCAA) was led by freshman Ariana Harper's season-best 28 points and junior Janelle Sumilong pitched in a season-high 19. The Golden Eagles (4-8, 2-4 CCAA) were led by Sydney Bordonaro's 17 points.

The Toros trailed 15-12 after a back-and-forth opening quarter. Back-to-back Harper treys to start the second period gave CSUDH the lead for good. The Toros grabbed a 13-point lead, their biggest of the first half, with 4:39 left until halftime on a Harper jumper to lead 31-18. CSLA went on a 13-4 run to close out the frame and make it a 35-31 game at halftime.

The Toros got the momentum back in the second half and stretched their lead to 57-41 at the end of the third quarter. CSUDH grabbed its biggest advantage of the contest, 60-41, with 9:28 left on a Sumilong 3-pointer. The Toros cruised the rest of the way to prevail by 17 points.
CSUDH will have a day off before traveling to and facing Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m.
