LA JOLLA –
Rylee Brown tallied a career-high 20 kills and a near 45.9 attack percentage, but it wasn't enough as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team was swept (21-25, 23-25, 20-25) by UC San Diego at RIMAC Arena Saturday in their final meeting before the Tritons jump to NCAA Division I and the Big West Conference the next school year.
It was a valiant effort for the Toros (12-10, 5-10 CCAA), for they only lost each set by less than five points.
The Toros hit 20.7 percent of their attack throughout the night while hitting a high mark of 21.6 percent in the second game.
UC San Diego (17-7, 11-5 CCAA), meanwhile, hit 28.3 percent in the match.
Taylor Benitez-Fanslow marked 11 kills and a dozen digs for her first double-double since October 25 and her sixth on the year.
Lynda Nguyen had 15 of the Toros' 63 total digs.
On the other side of the floor, Emily Hubbard had 17 kills while Isabela Dobra and Alyson Penrose both had 19 digs.
The Toros best performance came at the beginning of the second round. They jumped ahead 7-1 but the Tritons turned the tide and tied the game at eight. The two would go neck-and-neck until a 6-1 run broke a 17-point tie to become the difference in the game.
Dominguez Hills closes the book on the 2019 campaign at the Torodome with Cal State East Bay and San Francisco State visiting Friday and Saturday, respectively. First serve for both matches are 7 p.m.
