CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team began its final weekend of the regular season on a high note as the Toros swept a young Cal State East Bay squad (25-15, 25-14, 25-15) at the Torodome Friday evening.
The win assures the Toros (13-10) a winning record for the second time in three seasons. Dominguez Hills wraps up the 2019 campaign Saturday against San Francisco State. Before first serve, the Toros will honor their seniors
Mikayla Rogers and
Taylor Benitez-Fanslow at 6:45 p.m.
Jordan Ramirez had a double-double night with 20 assists and a dozen digs,
Lynda Nguyen made 11 digs, but the Bay Area natives made one memorable highlight in the third set that eventually gave the Toros the rally point.
Check out the highlight as Ramirez and Nguyen made the save:
Here's what Nguyen had to say following the win including launching perhaps the longest free ball in her volleyball career:
Benitez-Fanslow led the effort on the attack front with 15 kills along with an impressive 52 percentile.
The Toros led from start to finish in the first set and jumped on a 7-3 start to take control of the second. The Pioneers (7-18, 6-11 CCAA) made it a battle early into the third round until the Toros won 8-of-10 serves to take a 16-10 lead and not look back.
