Early Goal from Kaemerle Lifts Toros Over Lumberjacks

ARCATA - Junior Holly Kaemerle scored in the fourth minute as Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated Humboldt State by a score of 1-0 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's soccer matchup, Thursday at College Creek Field.

The Toros (7-7-2, 5-4-1 CCAA) head to their regular season finale needing another win to secure a spot in the CCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years. CSUDH outshot the Lumberjacks (4-10-2, 3-8 CCAA) 15-7 in the game, including 5-3 on shots on-goal.

Kaemerle got things going in the fourth minute as she picked up a loose ball and hit a laser from the upper left part of the box into the upper right corner of the net. It was her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The Toros went into halftime with a 1-0 lead and dominated the second half as well with an 8-3 shot advantage. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Newsom ended the game with three saves.
CSUDH will have a day off before facing San Francisco State on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. Should the Toros win, they will qualify to the CCAA Tournament with the first round to be played on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
