Toros Upset No. 10 Cal State LA on Dorado Golden Goal

CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team upset 10th-ranked Cal State LA in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) by a final score of 1-0 in overtime, Wednesday at Toro Stadium.

The Toros (3-5-1, 1-2) have now won their last two contests, both in overtime fashion. The Golden Eagles drop to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA.

Neither team could score in 90 minutes of regulation, as the game moved into sudden-victory overtime. Approximately three and a half minutes into the extra period, sophomore Patricia Rubio-Martinez took a shot off a bad clearance that was blocked. Senior Chrystal Dorado was able to pick up the mess and send in a left-footed laser to the upper left corner of the net for the game-winning golden goal.

Both teams were even on shots, 7-7, in regulation. CSUDH dominated the overtime with four shots to the Golden Eagles' none. Junior Jessica Neighbors made one save in the contest.

The Toros will have a day off before hosting Sonoma State on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m.

Toro Notes: The goal was Chrystal Dorado's first of her Toro career … Sophomore Vanessa Campos has played every minute on the field this season.
