TURLOCK – The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team dropped a three-set decision (22-25, 19-25, 10-25) to Stanislaus State at Fitzpatrick Arena Saturday night, ending a three-match winning streak.
The offense was a struggle for Dominguez Hills (11-7, 4-7 CCAA). The Toros hit 10 percent on the attack with 20 miscues.
Samaya Royal led the effort with eight kills while the tandem of
Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and
Rylee Brown each had half a dozen.
The Warriors (12-7, 7-5 CCAA), who took sole possession of first place in the conference's north division after Chico State was swept by both the Toros and Cal State LA this weekend, hit 32 percent on a night when they honored their three seniors. One of the trios, Sierra Adams, racked up 11 kills despite hitting nearly 14 percent of her shots.
Dominguez Hills' best effort in the match came in the first set. It kept pace with Stan State and a four-point run – three of them on Warrior errors – gave the Toros an 11-9 lead. After another big run by the Warriors, the Toros got into another four-point momentum to bring the deficit to 20-19 but could not grab the lead.
Despite grabbing the lead five times, the Toros couldn't stop 7-2 Warrior run in the second set to fall behind 19-15. Stanislaus State led the third set from start to finish.
The Toros return home next weekend to host Cal Poly Pomona Friday and No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino Saturday. Both are at 7 p.m. The Toros best the Broncos in four at Kellogg Arena but was swept by the Coyotes at Coussoulis Arena earlier in the month.
