Yandall, Ramirez Each Hit Double-Double Marks in Split with PacWest Foes

SAN FRANCISCO – Tati Yandall combined for 31 kills and 23 digs Friday as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team split the first day of the NCAA West Region Showcase, hosted by Academy of Art on the campus of San Francisco State. The Toros were edged by Hawai`i Hilo in five sets before cruising to a 3-0 shutout win over the host Knights.

TOP PERFORMERS
Tati Yandall – 22 kills, 21 digs, 3 blocks
Jordan Ramirez – 47 assists (career-high), 12 digs
Esther Duru – 10 kills, 4 total blocks, 3 digs
 
WHAT HAPPENED?
- Both teams traded off set wins but neither team won by more than five points in the final four rounds
- The Toros led by as many as two points in the deciding set, when a 4-point rally gave the Cardinal & Gold a 6-4 lead.
- The 58 kills are the most the Toros have reached on the young season. Fifteen of those came from the third set.
- Jordan Ramirez set a new personal best on the assist column for the second consecutive match, tallying 47. She added a dozen defensive saves for her first double-double since October 20, 2017.
- Defense proved to be a huge factor in the match as the Vulcans made 91 while the Toros had 88.
- Despite the loss, the Toros outhit the Vulcans .165 to .150

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros capitalized on many errors on ArtU. The Knights made 21 attacking errors, seven service misses, and 14 reception errors.
- While CSUDH made 31 kills, they posted a .357 attack percentage.
- The Toros started out the second set with an 8-1 lead, five of which came from Lynda Nguyen serving.
- Dominguez Hills scored six consecutive points on two different occasions during the third set, with the second one setting it up for the match win.
 
WHO'S NEXT?
The Toros will now face two members from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Saturday, starting with Montana State Billings at 8:30 a.m. followed by Saint Martin's at 5:30 p.m.
