Kim Aggabao Steps Down as Head Softball Coach; Katie Garcia Named Interim

CARSON – Kim Aggabao, who has served as Cal State Dominguez Hills' head softball coach for five seasons, announced her resignation Tuesday evening to pursue another career outside athletics.
 
"I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to serve as head softball coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills," Aggabao said in a statement. "I am thankful for the relationships I have made with student-athletes, coaches, staff and administration. I will miss my Toro family tremendously. This is a bit bittersweet because I care a lot about our student-athletes. But I have an opportunity to pursue something that is important to me and I am passionate about. ​Words cannot express how appreciative I am for the support I have received as I move forward on this new career path."
 
At the same time, athletics director Jeff Falkner names longtime assistant coach and former Toro standout Katie Garcia interim head coach while the national search for the next head coach begins immediately.
 
"I am sad to see Kim go, but I wish her well in her future endeavors," Falkner said. "We are fortunate to have Katie here to run the program as the interim head coach this fall."
 
During Aggabao's five seasons as head coach of CSUDH's softball program, she compiled 78 wins and 14 All-CCAA selections. This past season, the Toros compiled 15 wins, including 11 in conference play. Aggabao compiled a career record 107-241-1 in seven years as a head coach, including two at Division I South Dakota State.
 
Aggabao was a standout student-athlete at UC San Diego. She was a three-time All-CCAA and had been named both the conference's Most Valuable Player and the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association All-West Region second team her senior year.
 
Garcia takes over with an impressive background, from being an All-CCAA outfielder for the Toros all throughout her playing career (2007-10) to being an assistant coach for the last eight seasons with her alma mater. She's made three appearances in the NCAA postseason, one as a student-athlete and two as an assistant coach.
