Ramirez Dishes Out Career-High 29 Assists as Toros Split Day 2 at Cougar Classic

SAN MARCOS – Jordan Ramirez combined for 42 assists and 10 digs as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team split two matches Saturday, each in three sets. Coming off a defeat to No. 8 Nebraska at Kearney (11-25, 12-25, 25-19) in the morning session, the Toros rebounded and defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) to complete the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Classic.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros were unable to find any momentum in the first two sets, having scored no more than three points.
- Although the Lopers established a four-point lead in the third set, the Toros got into a 6-1 run with the benefit of Loper errors to move up front 12-11 for the second lead in the game.
 
MATCH 2: CSUDH 3, Indiana University of Pennsylvania 0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16)

Jordan Ramirez – 29 assists (career-high), 7 digs

WHAT HAPPENED?
- After the Crimson Hawks rallied with four straight points to take a 23-22 lead, the Toros came out of a timeout and scored three unanswered points on kills from Lotte Braakhuis and Brown along with a Renee Wheeler service ace to take the game win.
- The Toros took control of the second set using a 5-1 momentum to take a 9-5 lead. Neither team scored more than four consecutive points in the second set.
- Dominguez Hills took control of the third set midway through, scoring seven points on eight serves to take a 17-11 lead.
- Tati Yandall, recording the first double-double of the season, recorded four kills and five digs in the first set.
 
AT THE END OF THE DAY
- Tati Yandall's streak of 10 straight matches with more than 10 kills came to an end in the loss to Nebraska at Kearney. However, following the result against IUP, she has reached the double-digit mark 13 of the last 15 matches.
- Jordan Ramirez set a new personal best of 29 assists against IUP, breaking her previous record of 25 against Cal Poly Pomona last season.
- It was the first time CSUDH had saw both Nebraska at Kearney and IUP on a volleyball court.
 
WHO'S NEXT?
The Toros will be put to the test against the Great Northwest Athletic and PacWest Conferences in the annual NCAA West Region Volleyball Showcase. Although the Academy of Art is playing host, the Knights will use San Francisco State's The Swamp for all its matches. Dominguez Hills opens the crossover against the PacWest's Hawai`i Hilo Friday at 10:45 a.m.
