Toros Resilient in Twin Bill Loss at Stanislaus State

Turlock - Down two runs to Stanislaus State in the top of the seventh inning with one out, Cal State Dominguez Hills evened the score with a clutch hit from sophomore designated player Jade Loe to extend game one of a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader, Friday night at Warrior Softball Field. The Toros ultimately fell in the eighth inning, 3-2, and was defeated in five innings in the night cap, 8-0.

CSUDH is now 15-31 overall and 11-23 in conference play. The Warriors improve to 28-18 overall and 19-13 in the CCAA.

The two teams will play another doubleheader Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m.

Game One - STAN 3, CSUDH 2 (8 inn.)
The Toros came up big in the seventh to force extras, but ultimately got walked off by a score of 3-2.

CSUDH was limited to one hit and could not get more than one runner on in the first six frames and entered the seventh down 2-0. With two outs to spare, sophomore infielder Kendelle Messersmith drew a walk. Freshman infielder Chloe Wenger hit a double down the left line in the next at bat to put runners on second and third. Loe came through and hit a single up the middle on the first pitch to get Messrsmith and Wenger home to tie the game.

The Warriors put two runners on in the bottom of the first, but the Toros were able to turn a double play as junior infielder Damari Simon caught a line drive and flipped the ball to Messersmith at second for the force out. Stanislaus State took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run double from Desiree Gonzalez and ended the game after back-to-back hits in the bottom of the eighth. CSUDH totaled three hits in the game from senior outfielder Doreen Corella, Wenger and Loe.
