CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team couldn't find any momentum in their 4-3 defeat to Cal State San Bernardino in the second game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association series Friday afternoon.
The series will shift to San Bernardino in a doubleheader, however, both universities agreed to move it to Sunday at 11 a.m. due to inclement weather.
The Toros collected seven hits, two of which came from
Daryl Donerson.
Kai Gomez had perhaps the biggest hit on the day for Dominguez Hills in the seventh inning, when he slashed a two-out, two-run triple down the right field line to make it a 4-3 deficit.
Dominguez Hills had another chance to even the score in the eighth after
Esteban Ortega stretched for a leadoff double, but Coyote reliever Dylan Stablein got out of the jam in order.
Nick Suniga got off to a rocky start but managed to hold the Coyotes to two runs and five hits while striking out four.
Spencer Hereford,
Ian Codina and
Luke Laurita each had shutout performances out of the bullpen.
Suniga's opposite, Blake Timm, appeared to be unbreakable as the right-hander didn't allow back-to-back knocks in his outing. He was tagged for six hits and three walks in seven innings.
