Toros Drop Final Game of Desert Stinger Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to Montana State Billings in six innings on Sunday, the final day of the Desert Stinger Classic. The tournament was hosted by MSUB at Majestic Park in Las Vegas.

CSUDH finishes the opening weekend with a 2-3 record.

The Yellowjackets (4-1) limited the Toros to four hits. Two of those came from freshman first baseman Chloe Wenger, who went perfect from the plate.

After giving up four runs in three innings, CSUDH was able to get runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth inning, but was not able to capitalize.

In the top of the fourth, sophomore infielder Kendelle Messersmith singled to left field and junior designated player Renee Galindo drew a walk to occupy first and second, but the Toros were couldn't bring them in. In the fifth, Wenger hit one through the right side and was pinch ran for by senior Kayla Lock. Lock advanced to second on a ground out and took third on junior infielder Jazmin Guzman's single to the outfield.

The Yellowjackets scored two in the fifth and two in the sixth to seal the game.

CSUDH will jump into conference play, hosting currently fifth-ranked Humboldt State in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10. Action Friday starts at noon and Saturday at 11 a.m.
