Toros Bounce Back with Two Wins on Second Day of Desert Stinger Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After starting the season 0-2, the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team responded with two wins during the second day of the Desert Stinger Classic, hosted by Montana State Billings at Majestic Park on Saturday.

The Toros (2-2) had no trouble scoring runs on the day, defeating Minot State (1-1) 14-8 and taking care of Fort Lewis (0-3) in five innings, 11-0.

CSUDH 14, MSU 8
The Toros erased a 4-0 first-inning deficit to come back and defeat Minot State 14-8 in their first game of the day.

Junior infielder Jazmin Guzman went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Sophomore catcher Rachael Sandoval went 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI.

CSUDH surrendered four runs in the first and trailed 4-0. The Toros responded in the second with six runs and took the lead for good. Jessica Lane singled, Jade Loe doubled and Alexis Pintado was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Guzman scored Lane on a single to center field and Loe touched home on an error. Telles brought in Pintado with a hit to right field and a Sandoval single got Guzman to score. An MSU error brought in Sandoval and Telles as CSUDH took a 6-4 advantage.

The Toros got an insurance run that they would need in the fourth on a Beaver wild pitch. After MSU put three runs away in the top of the fifth and sixth, CSUDH punched back with seven in the bottom of the sixth with RBI coming from Sandoval, Chloe Wenger, Pintado and Guzman.

The Beavers tried to mount a comeback, but were only able to get one across in the top of the seventh as CSUDH prevailed.

CSUDH 11, FLC 0 (5 inn.)
Catcher Renee Galindo went 2-for-2 and homered twice to lead CSUDH to an 11-0 win over Fort Lewis in five innings.

All CSUDH batters got at least one hit and went 14-for-25 as a team overall. Freshman pitcher Alyssa Olague threw all five innings, gave up no runs on only four hits with two strikeouts.

The Toros got things going in the first with five runs. Telles singled and scored on Sandoval's RBI hit down the left field line. Messersmith then hit one through the left side before Galindo blasted a three-run home run. Lane tripled in the next at bat and Wenger brought her home to make it 5-0.

Galindo homered in the bottom of the third. RBI from Pintado and Simon stretched the margin to 8-0. Three more insurance runs in the fourth accounted for the final score as the Toros cruised to their second win of the day.
