CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team split a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino by scores of 3-1 and 5-0, Friday at Toro Diamond.
 
With the split, the Toros are now 5-10 overall and 3-7 in the CCAA. The Coyotes are now 9-6 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA.
 
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24, starting at noon.
 
Game 1 - CSUDH 3, CSUSB 1
The Toros took the first game by a final score of 3-1, aided by a home run from junior catcher 
Rachael Sandoval and a seven-inning, eight strikeout performance from senior pitcher 
Alyssa Valinches.
 
Sandoval finished with two hits, two RBI and one run. The other two runs came from junior 
Damari Simon and senior 
Doreen Corella.
 
CSUDH got things going in the first inning. Simon reached on a CSUSB error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from senior outfielder 
Kayla Lock. Sandoval then lifted a homer over the left field fence to put the Toros up 2-0.
 
CSUDH extended its lead in the second as Corella doubled down the right field line and advanced to third on a single from 
Kelcy Telles. Lock then singled to bring home Corella to give CSUDH a 3-0 lead.
 
CSUSB got its lone run of the game in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Ancona.
 
The Toros escaped four different innings with two or more runners on base as the Coyotes had 10 left on base.
 
Game 2 - CSUSB 5, CSUDH 0
The Toros were held scoreless as they were defeated 5-0. Although CSUDH didn't score a run, but made contact on every out, as the Coyotes didn't record a single strikeout.
 
CSUSB scored three runs in the top of the third and two in the top of the fourth.
 
CSUDH had an opportunity in the bottom of the fifth as 
Alexis Pintado singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Telles and advanced to third on a groundout from 
Jazmin Guzman. Lock was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and third, but the Toros couldn't bring the two home.
 
CSUDH also had another opportunity in the sixth with Sandoval singling up the middle and 
Kendelle Messersmith drawing a walk. Corella grounded into a double play, but advanced Sandoval to third. 
Chloe Wenger drew a walk to once again put runners on first and third, but the Toros could not score a run.
