Toros Drop Two to Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK - The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team was swept in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader by Sonoma State by scores of 7-0 and 3-2, Saturday at Seawolf Softball Field.
 
The Toros move to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The Seawolves are now 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA.
 
For its next matchups, CSUDH will host Cal State San Bernardino in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24.
 
GAME 1 - SSU 7, CSUDH 0
Although they recorded seven hits, the Toros could not get a run on the board and fell in the first game, 7-0.
 
Junior infielder Jazmin Guzman went 2-for-4 in the game. The other CSUDH hits came from junior outfielder Damari Simon, junior catcher Rachael Sandoval, junior infielder Renee Galindo, senior outfielder Doreen Corella and senior infielder Alexis Pintado.
 
SSU scored two in the third, one in the fourth and four in the sixth.  
 
Game 2 - SSU 3, CSUDH 2
The Toros could not hold on to a two-run lead and fell, 3-2. Freshman designated player Chloe Wenger, junior infielder Jazmin Guzman, Simon and Sandoval all went 1-for-3 from the plate. Wenger two RBI and the two runs came from Simon and Sandoval.
 
CSUDH broke the game open in the top of the fourth. Consecutive singles from Simon and Sandoval put runners on first and second. Galindo drew a hit by pitch to load the bases and Wenger came through with a base hit up the middle to plate Simon and Sandoval.
 
The Seawolves responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs to even the score and got the go-ahead run in the sixth. The Toros were retired in order in the seventh as SSU prevailed.
