Bench Carries Toros to Fourth Straight Win on New Year's Eve

CARSON – David Howard came up three assists short from a rare triple-double as the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team ended the year 2018 with an 86-74 victory over Cal State San Marcos Monday to extend the win streak to four.
 
The Toros improve to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while the Cougars dropped to 3-10 and remain winless in their seven conference games played.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- It turned out to be an off-day for the starters, it was the bench who carried the team scoring 61 points. Brown, Hicks and Howard combined for 43 of those points. Alex Garcia scored 11 to be the only starter to have reached double digits.
- After shooting a 32 percent (10-for-31) from the field in the first half, the Toros came around in the second period and shot 57.7 percent (15-for-26). They ended the game with 43.9 percent (25-for-47). In addition, Dominguez Hills made a season-high 16 field goals from 3-point range.
- Dominguez Hills had led for 34 minutes and built a 20-point lead with 4:27 left in the game.
- Dalton Soffer and Darae Elliott each had 21 points to lead the effort for San Marcos. The Cougars shot 36.7 (22-for-60) around the perimeter but missed out on the free throw line, making 24 out of 44 attempts.
- After an Elliott free throw got the Cougars to within three at 16:37 in the second half, the Toros would begin a 13-6 run led by Brown to build a 53-43 lead two minutes later.

The Toros' season-most four-game homestand continues as they welcome San Francisco State to the Torodome Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
