CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team once trailed by as much as 14 points, but were able to come back and defeat Sonoma State by a final score of 60-53 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Saturday at the Torodome.

The Toros win their second straight and improve to 9-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play. They are tied for fifth place in the league standings. The Seawolves drop to 6-9 overall and 3-8 in the CCAA.

Zhane Carter led CSUDH with a season-high 22 points with five 3-pointers.
Taylor Farris added 16 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

CSUDH came out of the gates slow and trailed 19-7 at the end of the first 10 minutes. SSU grabbed its biggest lead of the game, 21-7, on the first play of the second quarter. The Toros outscored the Seawolves 16-5 in the period from there, ignited by a Farris jumper. CSUDH went into halftime trailing 26-23.

Two baskets from
Nautica Morrow and Farris to start the third period gave the Toros their first lead of the game, 27-26. CSUDH went into the final quarter up 41-38.

The Seawolves came back and evened the score, 45-45, with 4:42 remaining in the contest. The Toros pulled away, going on a 11-2 run, capped off by a Morrow steal and layup, to grab their biggest lead of the game 56-47 with a little over two minutes left. CSUDH was able to make their necessary free throws to prevail.

The Toros will go on the road to face Cal Poly Pomona for their next contest on Thursday, Jan. 18. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.Â
