Volleyball Completes Rally Against Jacks to Get Back Into Win Column

CARSON – Cal State Dominguez Hills had to dig itself out of a 2-0 deficit, and with help from Claire Autry's 12 kills within the final three sets, the Toros were able to complete the 3-2 (16-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-11) come-from-behind win against Humboldt State Friday night.

The victory puts the Toros (6-7, 2-2 CCAA) back into the win column after dropping their last three contests.

Autry ended the night with 15 total kills, six blocks and a season-high six digs. Bridget Heins followed with a dozen kills, including five in the fourth set, and Cathryn Lopez made 18 digs. Tati Yandall also contributed to the defense with 16 digs. Rylee Kiger dished out 29 assists while freshman Jordan Ramirez made 19.

Dominguez Hills got off to a poor start on the attack, hitting a -.032 percent by the end of set one. But by the end of the night, the Toros walked out of the Torodome hitting just .195.

The third set was perhaps the Toros' best performance on the night, hitting .333 as a team. Autry made six kills and the duo of Lopez and Yandall combined for 13 of CSUDH's 21 defensive saves.

Although the Toros had led for a majority of the fourth game, the Jacks (2-9, 1-4 CCAA) stayed within four points. Things became dramatic in the end with CSUDH being a point away from forcing a deciding set as Humboldt State's Alex Lolland made three kills during a four-point run to cut the deficit to within two. The Toros did get that 25th point on Heins' kill.

CSUDH jumped ahead to a 5-1 lead to start the fifth set and never looked back.

Lolland ended her night with a .171 hitting percentage to lead the Lumberjacks.

A day trip to Cal State San Marcos Tuesday is on tap for the Toros. First serve is at 7 p.m.
