SAN BERNARDINO -- Down one goal after the first 45 minutes, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team reeled off three goals in the second half to defeat Cal State San Bernardino by a final score of 3-1, Sunday at Premier Field.
Â
The Toros win their third straight contest and improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. The Coyotes drop to 2-5 and 0-2 in the CCAA.
Â
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, it didn't take long for CSUDH to find the equalizer. Just 1:37 into the second half, junior forward
Juan Hernandez came from behind and stole the ball from CSUSB goalie Jacob Huber. Hernandez turned around and rifled one past a surprised Huber.
Â
Senior midfielder
Charlie Gonzalez gave the Toros the lead in the 76th minute. After a scrum for the ball inside the box, Gonzalez found the ball and then the lower left corner of the goal for the score. CSUDH got insurance with its third goal in the 85th minute.
Gilberto Rocha ran up the right side on a counter attack and found
Adam Vargas on the opposite end of the field. Vargas beat Huber one-on-one for the goal.
Â
The Coyotes score in the first half came from Danny Ortiz with an empty net after CSUDH goalie Charlie Gonzales misplayed a ball and was out of place.
Â
The two teams had 14 shots apiece. Gonzales compiled five saves for the Toros. Huber amassed three for the Coyotes
Â
CSUDH will return home to play reigning CCAA champion UC San Diego on Friday, Sept. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
