Fernandez Fans Seven in Toros Loss to the Gators

SAN FRANCISCO – Rigo Fernandez struck out seven in five innings but a three-run second inning proved to be the difference as San Francisco State took game, 7-1, and the CCAA series sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday afternoon.
 
The Toros have three games remaining in the regular season, all against Sonoma State at Toro Field. The twinbill begins Saturday at noon.
 
Neither of the seven Toro hits were for extra bases. Brandon Polizzi and Miguel Castaneda each had two.
 
The Toros got into trouble in the bottom of the second inning with the bases loaded, leadoff man Jacob Lopez would clear the bases with a triple to give the Gators a 3-0 lead. Fernandez settled down and threw hitless frames before turning it over to the bullpen in the sixth.
 
CSUDH were held to first base until the fifth inning and got the lone run in the eighth. Daryl Donerson drew a leadoff walk, took second on Adrian Guzman's single and scored on Polizzi's hit to right.
 
The Toros now wait and see the result of the Cal State LA-UC San Diego doubleheader in La Jolla. If the Golden Eagles get one more win, they will clinch the third and final spot to the CCAA Tournament and end the Toros season next Sunday.
