No. 17 Lancers Take Two From Softball in Final Non-Conference Twinbill

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team fell to the NFCA's No.17 Cal Baptist University Thursday afternoon 2-10 in game one and 1-10 (5 Innings) in game two.

Game 1 - CBU 10, CSUDH 2
Starting pitcher Sharie Albert controlled the first two innings as she retired the first six Lancer hitters in a row and struck out the first two of the game.

Lyzette Reveles led off the first with a single to left field and advanced to second on Kendelle Messersmith's sacrifice bunt. It was déjà vu in the second as Kayla Lock led off the second inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on Alexis Pintado's sacrifice bunt. Unfortunately, the Toros left the runners stranded in both innings.

Cal Baptist (34-7, 24-2 PWC) took a 5-0 lead in the third using four hits and two walks. London Miller had a two-run homerun in the inning.

The Toros (6-39, 4-28 CCAA) answered back in the bottom half of the frame with two runs of their own. Reveles led-off the inning with a double to left center and advanced to third on Messersmith's single to right field. Damari Simon's single to right center scored Reveles and advanced Messersmith to third base. With two outs, Lock drove in the second run as she doubled to left field.

Hannah Thieroff hit a solo jack to right center in the top of the fourth to increase the Lancer lead 6-2. Miller sent her second two-run homerun of the day over left center field's fence in the top of the fifth for a score of 8-2.

After a quiet fifth and sixth innings for both teams, CBU added two more runs in the seventh.

Reveles went three-for-three with a walk and scored a run. Messersmith and Lock had two hits each and Simon had one hit for the Toros

Albert tossed her ninth complete game and recorded the loss.

Game 2 - CBU 10, CSUDH 1 (5 Innings)
The Lancers rode their momentum from game one and used three straight singles, a sacrifice fly, a double, a sacrifice bunt, and a solo homerun to take an early 5-0 lead in the first.

Jade Loe began the bottom of the second with a walk and advanced to second on Lock's sacrifice bunt. Renee Galindo drove in Loe for the Toros first run.

CBU added four more runs in the fourth using five hits and taking advantage of one Toro error to increase the lead 9-1.

Lock reached base on a walk and Pintado singled down the left field line but were left stranded in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Caitlyn Lloyd hit a solo homerun in the fifth to put the run-rule into effect 10-1

Loe recorded the loss in the circle for CSUDH.

The Cardinal and Gold will travel to UC San Diego April 21 and 22.
