Toros Stop Tritons Rally in Game Two to Split Doubleheader

LA JOLLA – Damari Simon and Jade Loe hit jacks Friday afternoon as the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team split day one with UC San Diego. Game one was a 2-8 loss and the night cap was a 7-6 win.
 
Game 1 – CSUDH 2, UCSD 8
The Toros (7-40, 5-29 CCAA) jumped on the scoreboard first courtesy of Simon's solo homerun to left field in the top of the first inning, but UCSD immediately answered back in the bottom half of the frame to even up the score 1-1.
 
After a scoreless second and third innings for both teams, the Tritons (24-22, 15-19 CCAA) took a 7-1 lead in the fourth using six hits to score six runs.
 
Lyzette Reveles led off the sixth with her 11th double of the season to center field and advanced to third on Madison Murphy's single to center field forcing a pitching change for the Tritons. Simon reached on a fielding error by the pitcher allowing Reveles to cross home plate for the Toros second run of the game.
 
San Diego picked up one more run in the bottom of the sixth for a score of 8-2.
 
Murphy, Simon, Kayla Lock and Alexis Pintado had one hit each while Reveles had two hits for Dominguez Hills.
 
Sharie Albert recorded the loss in the circle for the Toros.
 
Game 2 – CSUDH 7, UCSD 6
Loe put the Toros on the scoreboard first with a two-run homerun to center field in the top of the second and dominated in the circle limiting San Diego to four hits in four innings while keeping them scoreless.
 
The Toros quickly loaded the bases the the fourth inning as Simon and Analisa Nicholson led off with back-to-back singles and Kendelle Messersmith reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. Loe's groundout to the shortstop allowed Simon to score and Lock drove in Nicholson with a single up the middle to bring the Toros lead to 4-0.
 
Three more runs were added for Dominguez Hills in the fifth. Nicholson brought in two runs with her second double of the season after Murphy singled to right center and Simon walked. Loe singled up the middle advancing Nicholson to third and Lock drove in Nicholson for the second time this game with a single through the left side.
 
UCSD used six hits to score six runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
 
Renee Galindo, Murphy, and Simon had one hit each and Nicholson, Messersmith, Loe, and Lock had two hits apiece.
 
Loe picked up her third win of the season giving up no walks and striking out one.
 
Series concludes tomorrow with game one set for 12 p.m.
