Softball Takes Two From Gators to Win CCAA Series

CARSON – Kiara Mendoza picked up her first career win in game two and the offense combined for six RBI as the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team swept San Francisco State Friday afternoon 8-3 and 4-0.

Game 1 – CSUDH 8, SFSU 3
The Toros (5-28, 4-24 CCAA) played good old fashioned softball as lead-off hitter Jazmin Guzman set the table with a single and moved to second on Madison Murphy's sac bunt. Damari Simon drove in Guzman with a single down the right field line to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Sharie Albert held the Gators scoreless and hitless through three and two thirds innings of work until Kasie Trezona hit a two-run homerun to left field bringing in Megan Clark who singled before her giving SFSU a 2-1 lead.

Dominguez Hills scored five runs in the top of the fifth without recording a hit and took advantage of three Gator errors. The Toros quickly loaded the bases as Renee Galindo was hit by the pitch and both Guzman and Simon drew walks. Analisa Nicholson was issued a walk on four straight pitches allowing Galindo to score and forced a pitching change for San Francisco. CSUDH kept the pressure on the defense as three different infielders committed errors resulting in four more runs to bring the score to 6-2 in favor of the Toros.

San Francisco (12-20, 11-17 CCAA) answered back in the bottom of the frame scoring one run on two hits to reduce their deficit to three.

Galindo added two insurance runs in the seventh doubling to right field and driving in Lyzette Reveles and Jade Loe who were both hit by the pitch.

Murphy collected two hits while Guzman, Simon, Kendelle Messersmith and Galindo had one hit each.

Messersmith is currently on a seven-game hit streak.

Albert tossed her fourth complete game and picked up her second win of the season.

Game 2 – CSUDH 4, SFSU 0
Dominguez Hills took an early lead for the fourth straight game 2-0. The Toros loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs as Guzman walked, Murphy singled to right field and Simon walked. Guzman scored on Nicholson's sac fly to right field and Murphy crossed home plate on Reveles' groundout to second.

CSUDH added a run in the fourth inning as Loe and Kayla Lock had back-to-back singles and Megan Clark's two wild pitches allowed Loe to cross home plate.

Murphy's double to left center knocked in Guzman for her 15th run batted in for the season and the Toros final run of the game in the seventh inning.

Simon, Lock and Murphy had two hits each while Loe and Guzman both had one.

Mendoza threw her second complete game and her first shutout.

The Cardinal and Gold travels to the Tournament of Champions March 31 in Turlock with six games scheduled over three days. The Toros won four of six games last season and will face Notre Dame de Namur University Friday with first pitch set at 10 am.
