Game Recap: Softball |

Loe and Simon Drive in Two Runs in Softball's Losses to Pioneers

CARSON – Jade Loe and Damari Simon each had two RBI in the second game but the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team couldn't complete the comeback as Cal State East Bay took games one (13-0) and two (12-8) to claim the four-game CCAA series Sunday.

Game 1 – CSUEB 13, CSUDH 0 (5 Innings)
Ashley Allen wasted no time getting the Pioneers on the board, sending the first pitch of the game over the left field fence.

CSUEB did all the damage in the second inning, scoring nine runs – four unearned – on five hits and an error.

The Toros best chance on getting on the board was in the third inning. Jazmin Guzman reached on a fielder's choice and ended up stranded at third by the end of the inning.

Madison Murphy, Analisa Nicholson, Loe and Kendelle Messersmith each had a hit for the Toros.

Game 2 – CSUEB 12, CSUDH 8
East Bay started the game strong and produced seven runs in the first two innings. The first run of the game came from Sarah Fukushima who homered to center field in the first inning to put the Pioneers up early. Fukushima finished the series with four home runs, including three in the middle games.

The Toros quickly answered back with five runs of their own in a highly productive third inning in which the first five batters come home to score. Guzman and Murphy opened the inning with back-to-back singles and Damari Simon brought one run in with a double. Nicholson would load the bases with a walk and Lyzette Reveles knocked in Murphy with a single followed by Loe's two-run double to center field. Kayla Lock brought in the fifth run with a sacrifice fly.

An impressive offensive display from Guzman led the Toros with three hits, all of which came as lead off singles to start off the first, third and fourth innings. Murphy and Simon also had good days at the plate with two hits apiece.

The Toros ended the series 1-3 and look to bounce back with a pair of doubleheaders at San Francisco State, which begin on Friday, March 24.
