Bresson Tosses Gem in Game One as Toros Split Twinbill with Stanislaus State

CARSON – Joe Bresson struck out a season-high seven batters in a complete-game gem as the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team split the CCAA series opener with host Stanislaus State Saturday afternoon.

The Toros struck right off in the first inning and relied on Bresson's arm to preserve a 2-1 game one win while six errors hurt CSUDH in a 7-0 game two loss.

Game 1 – CSUDH 2, STAN 1
Brandon Polizzi opened the game with a single, stole second and scored on Esteban Ortega's double to right. Ortega would benefit from an error in right field to move to third and score the second run on Parker Hokuf's ground out.

Stanislaus State got its lone run in the sixth on a two-out homer by Kyle Nixon.

In addition to the seven strikeouts, Bresson would only allow runners on seven hits and a hit by pitch. He made 99 pitches on the mound.

His counterpart, Jordan Kron, also went from start to finish and struck out seven.

Game 2 – STAN 7, CSUDH 0
The Toros became their own worst enemy as five of the six errors they committed allowed the Warriors to plate five unearned runs.

CSUDH's best chance in scoring a run came in the sixth. Adrian Guzman drew a walk and was stranded at third base.

Daryl Donerson had two of the six Toro hits.

Nick Suniga took the loss despite not allowing an earned run. He also struck out four in 4.2 innings of work.

The series concludes with one game Sunday at noon.
