Seawolves Run Away with Doubleheader Win Over Softball

CARSON – Damari Simon recorded three hits, including a double, and scored twice but the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team fell to Sonoma State twice Wednesday.

The Seawolves silenced the Toros bats 8-0 in five innings to claim one and came up with a five-run surge in the seventh to win game two 11-3.

Game 1 – SSU 8, CSUDH 0 (5 innings)
The Seawolves offense was sparked early by lead-off hitter Karly Macadangdang's homerun to center field to begin the game. SSU would increase their lead to 3-0 after two Toro fielding errors allowed two more runs to score in the second and third innings.

Jade Loe collected her third sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the second. Jazmin Guzman walked in the third inning and picked up her second stolen base of the season.

Renee Galindo gunned down Jenn Amaral trying to swipe second base in the top of the fourth to increase her season total to five runners caught stealing.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Sonoma used three hits to add five runs in the top of the fifth to put the run-rule into effect.

Loe tossed four innings allowing four earned runs on five hits for Dominguez Hills.

Game 2 – SSU 11, CSUDH 3
The Toros quickly evened the score after SSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With two outs, Damari Simon doubled to left field and scored after Analisa Nicholson pulled a pitch through the right side for a base hit.

After a quiet second inning, the Seawolves broke the tie in the third using back-to-back extra-base hits by Macadangdang and Jenny Collazo. Amaral would drive in Collazo home with a base hit up the middle.

The run difference in the game came in the fourth. Alison Stycula hit a two-out triple and scored on a wild pitch.

CSUDH got its second and third runs in the sixth. Madison Murphy, Simon and Analisa Nicholson loaded the bases on three straight singles. Lyzette Reveles knocked in Murphy with a RBI single and Kayla Lock forced in a run by earning a walk.

Sharie Albert went as far as 4.1 innings on the circle, earning one strikeout.

The homestand continues with Cal State East Bay, beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
