Loe Hits First Career Home Run in Toros Loss to Sonoma State

CARSON – Freshman Jade Loe tossed a completed game on the circle and hit her first career home run but the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team dropped a pair of games to Sonoma State Tuesday afternoon.

The Seawolves (14-7, 9-5 CCAA) got some breathing room in the late innings to take game one, 6-2, while slugging their way to a 10-3 win in the evening cap.

Game 1 – SSU 6, CSUDH 2
The Seawolves had an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first as they took advantage of a Toro fielding error and saw Jenn Amaral's two-run home run clear center field fence.

Damari Simon and Analisa Nicholson were issued back-to-back walks in the bottom of the frame and Lyzette Reveles was hit by the pitch to load the bases with two outs but the Toros were unable to push any runs across home plate.

Kayla Lock began the second inning with a single to right center, moved to second on Renee Galindo's sacrifice bunt, and scored on a throwing error by the catcher during a pass ball to get the Cardinal and Gold on the scoreboard.

Loe, Simon and Nicholson all attacked SSU's pitcher Gabby Dupree early in the count collecting one hit each resulting in Loe to score the Toros second run of the game in the bottom of the third.

Starting pitcher Loe and Dominguez Hills' defense held Sonoma scoreless in the second, third and fourth innings, but the Seawolves added two runs in the top of the fifth to increase the lead to 5-2.

Jazmin Guzman, Lock, Simon and Loe all had one hit each for the Toros while Nicholson picked up two.

Loe picked up her second complete game of the season giving up three earned runs on six hits.

Game 2 – SSU 10, CSUDH 3
Shortly after the Seawolves put three runs on the board in the second inning, CSUDH responded with two of their own on Loe's first career 2-run homer, dinging the scoreboard in right center field.

Sonoma State did get a run back in the third on a RBI double from Alison Strycula, but CSUDH responded as well in its half of the inning. Guzman led off with a short pop up in the infield for a single and scored on Nicholson's RBI single to left field.

The Seawolves would score a run each in the fourth and fifth inning, but took complete control of the game with a four-run sixth.

Sharie Albert also went from start to finish on the circle, picking up a pair of strikeouts.

Both teams return to Toro Diamond one more time Wednesday. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
