Coyotes Break Tie in Seventh to Even CCAA Series with Toros

SAN BERNARDINO – The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team racked up 15 hits but Cal State San Bernardino broke a tie in the seventh to post a 7-5 win over the Toros to even the four-game CCAA series Friday afternoon.

Brandon Polizzi and Esteban Ortega ended the day with three hits each. John Soteropulos, Daryl Donerson and Nick Morelli each had two.

The Toros had to come from behind after the Coyotes plated three runs in the first two innings and added another in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Morelli and Trevor North opened the fifth with back-to-back singles and Polizzi drove the first run in on a double down the right field line. Soteropulos would follow with a two-run single to center field and would be plated on a Miguel Castaneda's sacrifice fly, putting the Toros ahead 5-4.

The Coyotes reclaimed the lead in their half of the inning using a sacrifice fly. They would eventually reclaim the lead with a two-run double in the seventh.

Defensive miscues had hurt the Toros as they committed four errors. The Coyotes took advantage of it by scoring in two unearned runs.

Joe Mercado got into the fifth inning before turning it over to the bullpen. Joshua Gogue took the loss after allowing the two runs in the seventh.

Two-way player Jon Ferrendelli threw five innings for the Coyotes, striking out five. Austin Casillas got the win after four innings of relief.

The series concludes at Toro Field with a twinbill Saturday at 11 a.m.
