Reveles Tallies Five Hits, Three RBI in Losses to Vulcans and Cavaliers

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team dropped contests to Hawai`i Hilo and Concordia Portland to conclude Montana State Billings' Desert Stinger Sunday.

The Vulcans plated nine runs across in the middle innings en route to an 11-3 win over the Toros while a three-run seventh allowed the Cavaliers to sneak away with a 9-5 win later in the day.

Game 1 – UHH 11, CSUDH 3
Shortly after escaping the Vulcans half of the first stranding the leadoff runner at third, the Toros got their offense started with a double hit by Jazmin Guzman, Damari Simon drew a one-out walk and Lyzette Reveles hit a three-out home run for the lead.

CSUDH did get caught in a jam in the third inning when the Vulcans loaded the bases. A walk forced in their first run and a bases-clearing double gave UHH the lead. The Vulcans would slug away with the lead with three home runs, one of which was a grand slam.

Guzman had two of the Toros five hits.

Jade Loe took the loss after allowing nine runs in four innings.

Game 2 – CUP 9, CSUDH 5
Just like game one, the Toros had got on the board first. In the second inning, Simon drove in Loe from second with a two-out single to right center.

The third inning proved to be costly on the defensive side for the Toros, as two errors to go along with four hits allowed the Cavaliers to score five runs and take the lead.

Concordia would score another unearned run in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.

CSUDH would cut the deficit down to two in the fifth inning. Reveles and Analisa Nicholson had back-to-back leadoff singles and Rachael Sandoval, Loe and Kendelle Messersmith each knocked in a run.

The difference in the game was in the seventh inning, when the Cavaliers scored three times. CSUDH's lone run in its half started with Loe reaching on a single and scoring all the way from first on Messersmith's double to left.

Sharie Albert went from start to finish on the pitching circle, having allowed only three earned runs and striking out two.

The Toros will jump right into CCAA play on their home opener with Stanislaus State starting Friday at noon.
