SEASIDE – The Cal State Dominguez Hill's softball team (1-10, 0-6 CCAA) dropped a pair to Cal State Monterey Bay (9-2, 5-1 CCAA) Friday afternoon, 2-11 in game one and 5-10 in game two.
Game 1 – CSUMB 11, CSUDH 2 (5 Innings)
Madison Murphy reached base on an Otter fielding error and advanced to second to lead off the game for the Toros. Jade Loe would then sacrifice bunt to move Murphy to third base. Two walks issued to Annalisa Nicholson and Damari Simon loaded the bases for the Toros but were unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.
The Otters wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard pushing three runs across, two coming from Courtney Henning's homerun to center field.
CSUDH answered back the very next inning as Rachel Sandoval doubled to left center and scored on Murphy's single to left. Lyzette Reveles brought in Kayla Lock who had singled earlier in the inning.
CSUMB pushed four more runs across in both the third and fourth innings which put the run-rule into effect.
Jade Loe recorded the loss for the Toros in the circle.
Game 2 – CSUMB 10, CSUDH 5
Murphy's bat continued to stay hot leading off with a triple down the left field line and scored on Sandoval's single to left.
Two more runs were added for the Toros in the top of the second inning when Kendelle Messersmith and Simon both crossed home plate via Murphy's double to left center.
CSUDH held the Otters scoreless through three innings and added two more runs in the top of the fourth as they took advantage of a walk, wild pitch and drop third strike.
Monterey Bay scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth, and five in the sixth.
Simon picked up two hits and scored two runs. Jazmin Guzman, Nicholson, Sandoval and Lock each had one hit. Sharie Albert recorded the loss for the Toros.
