Otters Run Away with Lead Twice to Complete Sweep Over Toros

SEASIDE -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team battled all day but were unable to string hits together as they dropped the final two games to Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 - CSUDH - 1, CSUMB - 7
Starting pitcher Jade Loe tossed a stellar three innings for the Toros (1-12, 0-8 CCAA), allowing only one hit while keeping the Otters (11-2, 7-1 CCAA) scoreless. Two defensive errors followed by three singles resulted in four runs for Monterey Bay in the bottom of the fourth and forced a pitching changed for Dominguez Hills.

Lusi Stanley hit a three-run homerun to center field increasing CSUMB's lead to seven.

CSUDH continued to battle, eventually pushing one run across in the top of the seventh inning.

Kendelle Messersmith and Loe both had two hits while Annalisa Nicholson and Jazmin Guzman added one hit each for the Toros.

Hayley Fein recorded her sixth win for the Otters.

Game 2 - CSUDH - 3, CSUMB - 11 (5 Innings)
The Toros took an early lead scoring three runs off four hits in the top of the first inning. Damari Simon drove in Madison Murphhy who reached base on a hit-by-pitch and moved into scoring position via Guzman's sacrifice bunt. Nicholson and Loe drove in the next two runs.

CSUMB answered back in the bottom of the second inning, matching CSUDH's three runs and four hits. The Otters added eight more runs over the next three innings to put the run-rule into effect.

Lyzette Reveles, Loe, Nicholson and Simon all had one hit for the Toros. Messersmith and Guzmin had two hits each.

Sharie Albert recorded the loss for the Cardinal and Gold.

CSUDH returns home Friday and Saturday to play host to Chico State. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
