Softball Swept by Stanislaus State to Open CCAA Season

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team were swept in its twinbill matchup against the visiting Stanislaus State University softball team losing, 7-3 and 12-0 (five-innings) Sunday afternoon.

The Toros (1-8, 0-4 CCAA) got some momentum going in the sixth and seventh innings in game one while the Warriors (8-2, 4-0 CCAA) tallied nine runs in the third of game two to seal the win.

Game 1 – Stanislaus State 7, CSUDH 3
The Toros trailed 3-0 before their first at bat. With the Warriors leading 1-0, starting pitcher Anyssa Garvin helped her own cause with a two-run home run over the center field fence.

CSUDH starting pitcher Jade Loe will settle down after the first inning holding Stanislaus State scoreless the next four innings. Loe finished the game with five feisty innings, allowing six runs and eight hits.

Offensively the Toros offense was held scoreless by Garvin, who pitched four scoreless innings allowing five hits while pitching in and out of trouble.

CSUDH will get on the scoreboard against Warriors reliever Kylie Ragsdale. Leading off the sixth inning, third baseman Lyzette Reveles hit a towering home run over the center field fence to cut the deficit to 6-1.

The Toros will add two more runs, but not enough to overcome the early three-run deficit.

The Toros offense was led by second baseman Madison Murphy and first baseman Analisa Nicholson, who were a combined 6-for-8 at the plate. Murphy had a double and Nicholson added a run batted in sparking the offense.

The Toros outhit the Warriors 11-9, but failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

Game 2 – Stanislaus State 12, CSUDH 0 (5 Innings)
The Warriors offense jumped all over starting pitcher Sharie Albert. Stanislaus State broke the game open with a nine-run third inning. In that inning 13 Warriors came up to bat to build a 12-0 lead.

The Toros would not recover as the offense was held to four hits the entire game. Warriors starting pitcher Megan Stacy, pitched four scoreless innings holding the Toros to two hits.

A pleasant surprise for the Toros was the work by freshman starting pitcher Kiara Mendoza, who pitched two scoreless allowing one hit while collecting three strikeouts.

CSUDH will host a doubleheader against Sonoma State University on Feb. 17, vying for their first California Collegiate Athletic Association conference victory.
