Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Thompson Scores a Dozen in Women's Basketball's Loss to Coyotes

CARSON – Simone Thompson scored 13 points, freshman DiJour Ledbetter grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team came up cold in the shooting column as the Toros dropped a 67-59 contest to Cal State San Bernardino Saturday.

Despite shooting 25.7 percent from the field, the Toros had kept themselves in the game with the help of the free throw line, hitting 16-of-23.

The Coyotes, meanwhile, were led by Mya Johnson's 23 points and Genaya Wilkinson's 11.

Trailing 8-2 four minutes into the game, the Coyotes would go on a 16-point run in the span of 4:50 to take an 18-13 lead.  The two teams would trade share of the lead, combining for five lead changes and five ties scores before the completion of the first half.

CSUDH had led until the 9:24 mark in the second quarter. The Coyotes went on a 13-2 run at that time to take the lead 34-29.  The half would end with the Toros trailing by three.

The game would remain close after halftime. Midway through the third quarter the Coyotes would turn it on and extend their lead to 10. The Toros, unshaken by this, answered with a 16-6 run that eventually tied the game at 55 with 3:27 remaining. The duo of Destinee Williams and Breanna DuBois would account for the 18 of the 30 second-half points. Cal State San Bernardino answered the deadlock and by ending the game on a 12-4 run, 67-59.

The Toros travel north to the Bay Area to face San Francisco State on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
