Defensive Miscues Hurt Toros in Loss to No. 8 Lancers

RIVERSIDE – Three errors, especially one in the second inning, proved to be costly as the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team dropped a 9-4 decision to No. 8 Cal Baptist in the middle game of a three-game non-conference series Saturday.
 
The Toros jumped quickly on the board in the first inning on a home run by senior John Soteropulos. The Lancers would answer back in the second inning with five runs and never look back.
 
CSUDH answered back in the fifth inning to close the deficit to 7-2, and again in the sixth, adding two more runs making it 8-4, however the deficit was too much to overcome, ending in a 9-4 final.
 
Senior Joe Bresson toed the mound today for the Toros, striking out three through five innings of play.  It was errors that plagued Cal State Dominguez Hills today.  Three fielding errors contributed to four of the Lancers runs. The bullpen took over in the sixth, answering the call by not allowing another earned run.
 
The Toros will see the Lancers again this Monday February, 13, at Toro Stadium. It will be the first home game of the season for CSUDH as Friday's scheduled home opener was moved.
