CHICO - In a tale of two halves, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team fell to Chico State by a final score of 74-57 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Sunday at Acker Gymnasium
The Toros won the first half 38-31, but were outscored 43-19 in the final 20 minutes.
Heaven Holmes and Nautica Morrow had 17 and 14 points, respectively, to lead CSUDH. Taylor Farris nearly had a triple-double with eight points, nine rebounds and nine steals. The Toros forced a season-high 32 turnovers.
CSUDH drops to 7-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The Wildcats improve to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the CCAA.
The Toros started strong, racing out to 7-0 lead in the first 48 seconds of the game. The Wildcats answered and took a two-point lead, 18-16, before CSUDH went on an 9-2 run to end the first 10 minutes with a 25-20 advantage.
The Toros stretched the margin in the second quarter to eight points, 30-22, on a 3-pointer from Tylore Bell. CSUDH outscored Chico State 13-11 in the period for a 38-31 halftime lead.
The Wildcats took the lead, 41-40, with seven minutes left in the third period and never looked back. Chico State kept the offensive onslaught going until the end of the game and prevailed by 17.
The Toros will make the short trip to Cal State LA on Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. for their next matchup.
