CARSON – Junior Zhane Carter scored a career-high 18 points off the bench, Nautica Morrow had 17 and Heaven Holmes added a dozen, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team couldn't recover from a 10-point at the start in a 78-66 loss to Cal Poly Pomona for the first California Collegiate Athletic Association defeat Thursday.
Taylor Farris had a big night on the glass as 15 of her rebounds came from the offensive end. In addition to the six points scored, she recorded six blocks and assists each.
The Toros (6-4, 4-1 CCAA) shot nearly 35 percent from the field but had a rough day in 3-point range, going 6-for-28. The Broncos, meanwhile, shot 40.5 percent with at least five players scoring in double figures.
Cal Poly Pomona (5-4, 2-2 CCAA) jumped ahead 10-0 three minutes into the contest. Although the Broncos led from start to finish, the Toros did get to within four on twice.
The Toros homestand continues on a rare Sunday when they take on Cal State San Marcos. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
