Toros Escape With 61-60 Win Over Sonoma State to Remain Unbeaten in CCAA Play

ROHNERT PARK - Junior Nautica Morrow drew a foul and nailed two free throws as the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team narrowly escaped with a 61-60 win over Sonoma State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Friday at The Wolves' Den.

The Toros remain unbeaten in CCAA play with a 3-0 record and improve to 5-3 overall. The Seawolves drop to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Morrow led CSUDH with 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior Zhane Carter pitched in 14 points.

The Toros started slow and found themselves down 15-10 at the end of the first 10 minutes. CSUDH dominated and outscored SSU 19-6 in the second quarter to take a 29-21 lead at halftime. The Toros closed out the final 6:16 of the period on a 14-2 run that was ignited by back-to-back 3-pointers from Carter.

CSUDH took its biggest lead, 32-21, after two Morrow free throws to begin the third quarter. The Seawolves cut the margin to three at the end of the period and evened the score, 41-41, on a 3-pointer nine seconds into the final quarter.

The Toros stretched the lead back to eight on a Carter 3-pointer with 5:51 remaining, but SSU responded and took a 60-59 lead with five seconds left. With one second on the clock, Morrow was able to draw a Seawolf foul and was sent to the charity stripe. Morrow, who missed her two previous attempts at the line, knocked both free throws to give CSUDH the win.

Ugochi Anudokem led SSU with 17 points and eight rebounds.

The Toros will play San Francisco State on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. for their next matchup.
