AZUSA - The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team opened its 2017 campaign with a 97-72 loss against Point Loma at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/PacWest Challenge, Thursday at the Felix Event Center on the campus of Azusa Pacific.

It was the season opener for both teams. The Toros drop to 0-1, while the Sea Lions improve to 1-0.

Heaven Holmes led CSUDH with 17 points. Nautica Morrow and Desiree Harding chipped in 16 and 11 points, respectively.

PLNU opened the game with two 3-pointers and ran away with it from there. The Toros went into halftime trailing 51-34. The Sea Lions grabbed their biggest lead of the game, 87-57 with 4:59 remaining in the game. CSUDH closed the gap to as much as 24 points, but the lead was insurmountable.

The Toros will stay in Azusa to face No. 16 Azusa Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. Â
